Elsner/Cooley Residence

where: Soldotna, AK
when: construction begins 2021
what: new single-family residence

Located on a bluff that overlooks the boreal forest of the Kenai Peninsula, the site has an uninterrupted view of the Chugach Mountains.  The south-facing facade maximizes view and light with expansive glazing responding to the notion of "living with the view".  The house is designed for two to live comfortably in the front wing while the back wing can be shut down and minimally heated when not in use.  Passive home strategies were used throughout: advanced wall construction, cool roof design w/ vegetation, thermal shades, passive & active radiant slab floor heating, local finish materials, and LED lighting throughout.
