Line in the Sand
where: Oregon Coast (various locations)
when: 2005 and ongoing
what: Every year during King Tide events I travel to the coast and install driftwood posts @ 20' on center while the tide is at its lowest and work my way up the beach as far as the landscape will allow. It is fascinating how simple driftwood posts, organized into a line, create meaning and spark curiosity. As people walk perpendicular to the fence, they may not notice it at first, but once they align with the installation, they stop and ponder. It's amazing how something as simple as sticks stuck in the sand can create such an impact. The interpretation of this installation is left up to the viewer's imagination
